| The following information will guide musicians
in planning their performance at the market. |
- For information about the possibility
of performing at the market or additional questions
about the details
of the market, contact:

Basic Needs |
- The market runs from 9 am to 2 pm. We
are looking for music to begin at 10 a.m.
and run till approximately 2 p.m. - 4
sets (45 minutes) with 10-15 minute breaks.
- We strongly request you play recorded
music during your breaks. Please let us
know in advance if you aren’t able
to do this.
- We often need to use the musician’s
sound system to make public announcements.
It is important that musicians have an
amplification system with a microphone.
|
| Set-up |
- The Market is on Central Ave between
and 1 st and 2 nd St. The entrance is
at the Central and 2 nd St intersection.
- Musicians perform directly from a semi-circle
performance site at the entrance to Progress
Energy (in the middle of the block). You
can typically pull your vehicle fairly
close (10 feet) to the stage area.
- The market street is closed to ALL
vehicles at 8 am - We assume musicians
will arrive after that, thus we have two
recommendations on how you can unload.
(1) You can use the open air parking lot
that runs along the north curb of the
market. Parking here costs $5.00 for the
day; or (2) You can temporarily park at
the 2nd Street end of the Market, and
after you unload move your vehicle to
a legal parking space or the parking garage
one block north (next to Baywalk, charges
are $1.00 during Market). In either case,
we can provide a dolly if you need it
to help move equipment to the music stage.
Call the Market Manager, David, at (727)
455-4921 for assistance upon your arrival.
- If you’re delayed in getting
to the market, please notify us as soon
as possible.
- Please check in with a market representative
at the Market Booth (located on the north
curb across from the music circle) when
you arrive. They’ll guide you in
getting set up.
- We'll have an electric cord in place
at the music stage for you to plug into.
- There is a link on the main page of
the Market website that will indicate
whether the Market will be closed due
to bad weather. Check it on Friday night
if you are in question. If the market
is required to close (in advance) due
to weather, we will not be paying the
musicians. In the case of potential rain,
we’ll have a tent at the music circle
for your protection.

| Performing |
- The Market is designed to be a casual,
upbeat, and friendly place. Your music
and performance does a lot to set the
tone. We’re looking for upbeat music
versus soothing or slower music
- You’re welcome to put out a tip
jar. We can provide a table and tip jar
if needed.
- You’re also welcome to sell CD's
as well as promote future bookings.
- When setting the volume level, we need
to balance the need to have the music
carry through the market area, while also
supporting the need of vendors in the
immediate area to communicate easily with
their customers. We’ll provide feedback
about any adjustments that may be needed.
- We encourage you to talk with market
customers during your performance! When
you’re talking to the audience,
we would appreciate:
- Referring to us as the "Saturday
Morning Market". The term “farmers
market” is acceptable. Please
don’t refer to us as a “flea
market”.
- Encourage customers to stop and get
to know vendors, as well as meet new friends.
- Remind people that the market is open
every Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2p.m. - from
early October until the end of May.
- For general market info, visit the
Market booth located across from the music.
- People can sign up there for a monthly
email that provides updates on new vendors,
music, and special events
- Please consider your timing to end
your final set at 1:45 . If you do play
until 2 p.m. , it’s much appreciated!
- The Market Manager will pay you at
the end of the performance. We pay with
a check. We’re generally able to
buy the check back with cash, if you’d
like.
- We’ll be requesting a Tax ID number
or Social Security number from all performers
so that we can issue 1099 Forms at the
end of the year for performers paid more
than the legal minimum.
- The market street isn’t reopened
to vehicles until it has been determined
that is safe considering the pedestrian
traffic. This usually happens around 2:20-2:30.
